We have built what we believe is the world's most complete and best system for scoring in fishing competitions like yours. Not just in theory, but where it actually counts, in the middle of an ongoing competition when everything doesn't go exactly according to plan.
The essence of every fishing competition is simple to understand but difficult to implement in practice: the result must be fair, transparent and trustworthy. At the same time, many organizers want to be able to shape the competition exactly according to their own rules, whether it is a simple club competition or a national championship.
Fishy Live is built for just this. The system includes a very powerful and flexible calculation engine which can handle basically all competition formats, without you having to build special solutions or handle anything manually.
🎯 Multiple ways to define what counts
A fundamental part of any competition is how a catch is scored. Fishy Live gives you four options:
Length
Points based on the length of the fish in centimeters. Most common in catch & release competitions.
Weight
Points based on fish weight in grams. Popular in trolling and boat competitions.
Combined
Both length and weight are included in the score. Flexible and versatile.
Species hunting
Each approved fish scores one point, regardless of size. Perfect for family competitions.
You can also separate how points are calculated from how they are displayed. For example, a competition can be ranked by length but presented as ”points” in the results list, making it easier to communicate with participants and the audience.
🔄 A consistent and predictable calculation model
All results are calculated through a fixed process: collect approved catches → apply rules → calculate final result. It provides three important properties:
Reproducible
The same data always produces the same results – no random differences.
Controllable
The results can always be checked and verified afterwards.
Fair
All participants are treated by exactly the same rules, without exception.
⚙️ Full control over the scoring
Fishy Live gives you detailed control over how your competition scores. By combining different settings for number of fish, daily limits and species rules, you can shape the scoring model exactly according to your competition format.
What you can control
- How many fish are counted per team?
- How many fish per day are allowed to be counted
- How many fish per species can be counted?
- Whether restrictions apply per day or the entire competition
Example of competition format
- Only the top 5 fish per team count
- Multi-day competition: max 3 fish per day
- Species focus: each species is counted only once
- Some species are more severely restricted than others
This not only controls the outcome, but also how the participants fish. The rules shape the strategy.
✖️ Species multipliers and bonus points
If you want to influence which species are prioritized, you can use multipliers. For example:
- Perch gives double points
- Pike gives normal points
- A certain species is set to zero and is not counted at all
Often used to create more balanced competitions or highlight species that are otherwise caught less frequently.
Fixed bonus points per fish
Add a fixed bonus point per fish to make even smaller fish valuable. Perfect for community and family competitions where everyone should have a chance to contribute.
⚖️ Score adjustment and handicap
Sometimes catch data alone isn't enough to create a fair competition. Fishy Live lets you adjust individual teams' final scores with a fixed point addition or point deduction — without affecting the tie-break calculation.
Handicap
Give less experienced teams a points boost to level the playing field. Perfect for leagues and series where everyone should have a chance regardless of experience.
Penalties and deductions
Deduct points for rule violations without having to disqualify. A milder measure that keeps the team in the competition.
Full transparency
All adjustments are openly published on the leaderboard with the reason, who made the change and when. Nothing happens in the hidden..
The adjustment can be positive or negative and can be changed during the competition. It is applied after the fish score but does not affect the tie-break order, so it never gives a team an unfair advantage in the event of a tie.
📅 Multi-day competitions with fair results
In competitions that span several days, a challenge often arises. A single bad day, perhaps due to weather, can determine the entire outcome. Fishy Live solves this by letting you choose how the days are counted:
All days count
The sum of all the days' catches determines the final result. Simple and traditional.
Only the best days
The system selects automatically the days that give the highest total points per team. Fairer and better reflection of actual performance.
Additionally, a clear division per day, so that both organizers and participants can understand how the result was built.
🚤 Trolling mode – competitions with central weighing
Not all fishing competitions operate as live reporting from the water. In many trolling competitions, the catch is instead taken to a central weighing station after the fishing day, where organizers and judges record all catches afterwards. Fishy Live has a dedicated trolling mode built for exactly this format.
Central weighing
Instead of participants reporting catches via the app, the organizer registers all catches in a quick grid tool. Multiple teams and catches are managed in the same view – much faster than entering report by report.
Day-based grid
In multi-day competitions, the grid is organized automatically per competition day, with clearly marked sections and exactly the number of places per day that the daily limit allows. Reports are automatically placed on the correct day.
Best days decide
Combine with ”best X of Y days”-model: each day's score is calculated separately, and the system automatically selects the best days per team. One bad day doesn't have to ruin the final result.
Trolling mode is standard in professional multi-day trolling competitions and is used by clubs and associations around the country. The entire flow – from weigh-in to finished leaderboard – is handled in the same system as all other competition formats, with the same scoring engine, the same tie-break rules and the same transparency.
🤝 Tie-break – clear rules in case of a tie
Ties are common in fishing competitions, especially when many teams are participating. Fishy Live offers several tie-break methods that automatically determine the placing when two or more teams have the same score. Here are some examples of methods you can choose from: Scoring and tie-break rules publiceras öppet på tävlingens publika sida, so that each participant can see in advance exactly how the result will be decided. This builds trust and minimizes discussions after the competition is over.
Biggest fish
Time for final score
Med metoden ”Tidpunkt” vinner det lag som nådde sin slutpoäng först. Belönar snabbhet och tidigt fiske.
First catch
Med metoden ”Första fångst” vinner det lag som rapporterade sin allra första fisk tidigast. En enkel och tydlig fallback.
The reserve fish method (TAIL) is the most thorough tie-break. It allows the entire catch is included in the assessment, not just the fish included in the final score – providing the deepest and fairest comparison between teams in the event of a tie.
📊 Scoreboards on multiple levels at the same time
Fishy Live provides not only one results list, but several parallel ones – all produced automatically from the same catch data. This means that different types of achievements can be highlighted simultaneously, without the organizer needing to handle separate calculations or manual compilations.
Team list
Huvudlistan för lag, rankad på totalpoäng.
Class lists
Separate lists per team class and per individual class.
Individually
Per-person-ranking inom lagtävlingar, baserad på varje deltagares egna fångster.
Biggest fish
Topplista där varje enskild fångst rankas för sig, oberoende av alla caps.
One team can win the team competition, while an individual from another team can win individually. At the same time, a third participant can take home the prize for the largest fish. All of these lists are automatically produced from the same catch data.
🏅 Classes – competition structure with its own rules
The class system in Fishy Live makes it possible to create what in practice becomes several parallel competitions within the same event, med gemensam rapportering, gemensamma domare och samma system. Det finns två typer av klasser som fyller olika syften.
Team classes (divisions)
Divide teams into separate divisions that compete independently of each other. Each team class gets its own leaderboard. Typical examples:
- Pro and Amateur
- Kayak and boat
- Regional divisions
Each team class produces a complete, separate team ranking with the same scoring engine as the main list.
Individual classes
Divide individual anglers into personal categories with their own leaderboard. Can be used in both individual competitions and team competitions (hybrid format). Typical examples:
- Junior, Senior and Veteran
- Women's class and open class
- Beginner and Expert
In a team competition, you can award ”Best Junior” or ”Best Woman” without changing how the team score is calculated.
😎 Individuell leaderboard i lagtävlingar
In addition to classes, there is a simple toggle that creates an overall individual leaderboard in team competitions. It shows the best individual angler in the entire competition – without affecting the team result. Use it when you want to award a ”Best Individual” award but don’t need multiple person categories. If you need more categories (e.g. Juniors, Ladies, Seniors) – use individual classes instead. The two functions are independent and can be combined.
Own scoring rules per class
Each individual class can, if necessary, bryta loss från tävlingens gemensamma regler and use their own. Anything not specified is inherited automatically from the competition's default values – you only need to change what should be different.
What can be controlled per class
- Number of fish counted (top count)
- Daily limits and species restrictions
- Tie-break method
- Multi-day aggregation (all days vs best N)
- Bonus points per fish
- Points calculation active/inactive
Example
- Professionals count their top 10 fish, amateurs only 5
- The junior class has lighter species restrictions
- A social class collects catches but produces no ranking
- The women's class uses "First Catch" as a tie-break
Everything happens within the same competition structure, with the same reporting flow and the same catch data. No need to create separate competitions.
🐟 Biggest Fish Rankings
The leaderboard for the biggest fish works fundamentally different than other leaderboards. Instead of adding up a person's catches into a total, each individual approved catch is ranked as its own row. All restrictions (top count, daily cap, species restrictions) completely ignored – it is the individual performance that counts.
Of
No leaderboard for biggest fish. Just regular team and individual leaderboards.
Top list only
The leaderboard replaces the regular leaderboard entirely. The competition is presented as a pure ”biggest fish” competition – perfect for trophy fishing and specimen hunts.
Both at the same time
The leaderboard runs in parallel with the regular leaderboard. Participants see both the aggregated team standings and the per-catch ranking.
The same person can appear several times on the top list, and a individual exceptional catch by anyone can reach the top. Combine with a team competition to award "Biggest Pike" in parallel with the regular team result.
📈 Statistics and analysis
Fishy Live not only provides results, but also insights. All catch data automatically analyzed and presented visually – from species distribution and size classes to trends over time. This gives organizers, participants and sponsors a deeper understanding of how the competition developed.
Catch statistics
Species distribution, average size and automatic categorization into size classes.
Achievements
Biggest fish and most active teams in the competition.
Analysis
Variation and trends – valuable for organizers and sponsors who want to understand the outcome of the competition.
🏆 Aggregate results across multiple competitions
Fishy Live not only handles individual competitions, but entire series and tournaments. Several competitions can be linked together to form a common overall standings that are updated automatically.
Sum up points
Automatically calculate points across all competitions.
Best results
For example, count the best 3 out of 5 races – bad days are not as punishing.
Placement points
100 points for a win, 90 for second place – classic series model for local club series to national championships.
🕐 Poänghistorik – full transparens och spårbarhet
One of the most powerful features of the system is the built-in poänghistoriken med tidsstämplar. Every change in the competition is automatically saved and published – every approved catch, every position change and every update to the leaderboard. This data is available in real time to everyone following the competition, and remains even after the competition has ended.
This means that anyone – participant, audience or organizer – can follow every fish and every change in position throughout the competition, and afterwards go back and see exactly how it developed. Who was leading after the first hour? When was the decision made? How did the top battle change in the last hour? Everything is documented and publicly available.
Full transparency
Show exactly what happened and when – during discussions or protests.
Traceability
Nothing is ”magical” – everything can be followed step by step.
Analysis capabilities
History provides a basis for improving future competitions.
Example: If two teams dispute the final score, you can easily show exactly when each team reached their final score, which catches were counted, and how the tie-breaker was decided. The result will not only be accurate – it will explainable and defensible.
🌑 Darkness mode – control over when the result is revealed
In many competitions there is a need to be able to control when the result is publicly displayed. When darkness mode is active, the system continues to function just as usual in the background – catches are reported, judges approve, points are counted continuously – but the leaderboard is hidden from participants and the audience.
Last hour
Avoid teams fishing tactically based on current position.
Award ceremony
Build suspense – reveal everything at once to the audience.
Double check
Allow time to review reports before the results are officially published.
Important: Darkness mode is not a pause. All calculations are done in real time all the time. The only thing that changes is visibility. The reveal is done manually – you decide exactly when the curtain is raised. Judges and organizers can of course follow the score development live via their personal logins throughout the darkness period. This gives you a full overview behind the scenes while participants and the audience wait for the big reveal.
⏸️ Competition without points
Sometimes you want to run an event without active scoring – a social fishing, a training session, or pure data collection. Fishy Live supports this with a simple toggle.
Everything is working as usual.
Catches are reported, images are reviewed, GPS is logged, and participants are registered. All data is collected just like in a real competition.
No points or rankings
All points are shown as 0 and no leaderboard is published. The focus shifts from competition to participation.
Activate whenever you want
Turn on scoring afterwards and all catches are scored retroactively. Perfect for a surprise reveal.
This is different from Darkness mode: darkness temporarily hides an active leaderboard, while inactive scoring means no ranking is produced at all. Use darkness for excitement before the reveal – use inactive scoring when you genuinely don't want competition results.
⚡ Stable and reliable
Real-time update
All calculations are done automatically and updated continuously without manual handling.
Scalable
Built to handle many participants and teams at the same time, without compromising performance.
Consistent
Same rules, same results – every time. No surprises during the competition.
✅ The result: a competition to trust
In the end, it's all about confidence. Participants must feel that the rules are clear, the results are correct, and that everyone is treated equally.
For the organizer
You focus on the competition. The system handles points, rules and results in the background.
For the participants
The rules are clear, the results are transparent and everyone is treated exactly the same.
For the sport
Serious competition results that are explainable, traceable and credible.
No tool will make fishing tournaments completely trouble-free, but the right system can make a big difference when it really counts. Fishy Live gives you stability and overview, so that points, results and structure are not what fall when the pressure increases.
